How the Global Education Protector personally changed the life of one of our Brokers

Chad Khoury sits in a very unique place where The Global education plan looked after him and his brothers after a tragic life event. Chad shares his point of view on what the Global Education Plan does for families and why he is so passionate about it.
“The Global Education Fund came into play when we were young. My uncle was in the industry, we actually had 2 brokers in the family at that point. My uncle took out a Global Education Protector policy for my Dad. My dad passed away in 2008, he was 40 years old – he had a heart attack. At that point the Global Ed kicked in for all of us. I was 12 at the time. My middle brother was 9. My youngest brother was 18 months old and this tragic event was something that really changed our lives completely.
My dad had his own business, but we didn’t come from the most fortunate place. I was going to a great school at the time - Jeppe Boys. But at the point where my Dad passed away, this fund opened up huge education opportunities. My brothers and myself all then went to St. Benedicts – fully covered. My youngest brother, went from creche all the way through at St Benedicts - thanks to Discovery. Discovery played a very important role in our lives. Every year on my Dad’s anniversary of passing, they used to give us soccer shirts and soccer balls. They used to come every single year! This is something that you don’t really know as a Broker, because you haven’t experienced that side of it.
So, I know my Mom didn’t have to worry about anything financially when it came to our education – Discovery handled it and did all those extra little things. As children, we don’t see the money, but we did remember the things they did for us and brought us every year. As brokers, we always think of the client when we take out policies like this. But for me, I can now feel what a child feels in these tough situations. I hope Discovery still do this, but it’s a big memory for me that they did this when we went through our hard times.
The global education premium is well affordable and for 3 brothers at a private school, that’s about R15,000,000 that Discovery has basically paid towards our education and futures. You can't put it into words, what it’s done – you only realise it later as you grow up.
I went to Boston College in Sandton – fully covered. My youngest brother Daniel ended up being good at Golf, Discovery covered the golf Academy. So, it was something that really changed our lives. You know, after such an unfortunate event happened, obviously we would take my dad back any day of the week and leave whatever we had there and carry on living a normal life; but to have the opportunities that we did – no one could have given us that.”
