Embracing the Challenge

Embracing the Challenge.

As the CrossFit community eagerly 'throws’ itself in to the annual CrossFit Games Open, a mix of excitement and nervous energy fills the air. For athletes worldwide, it's a time of anticipation, as they gear up to tackle the unknown challenges that lie ahead.

The way this competition works, is that athletes have 3 workouts to complete over a period of 3 weeks. Each time a workout gets released (which happens on a Thursday night), the athlete has 4 days to complete it to the best of their ability. You can redo as many times as you like – IF you can get out of bed the next day.

The release of each workout brings with it a surge of adrenaline, coupled with the daunting prospect of pushing physical and mental boundaries. However, amidst the fervor and anxiety, there lies a path to success built on strategic planning, self-awareness, and calculated risk-taking.

One of the most significant hurdles athletes face during the CrossFit Games Open is the uncertainty surrounding the workouts. This is like life throwing any possible unplanned situation at us in every day life. We have to be prepared whether we like it or not! It’s much the same as your child ending up in hospital after a sudden onset illness, or one person you barely know pulling the plug at work on a project you’ve worked so hard on. Life is unfair! BUT, athletes with a CrossFit mentality seem to be tough. Tougher than most. They tend to be less overwhelmed, and less anxious than the average person. This sport teaches people how to shift their focus inward, honing in on their individual abilities and strengths.

It also teaches about how overreaching can lead to disappointment and potential injury, derailing progress and hindering performance. This competition teaches people to embrace the concept of calculated risk-taking.

Ultimately, it's not just about surviving the CrossFit Games Open and becoming the fittest on Earth. It's about thriving in the face of adversity and emerging stronger, both physically and mentally, on the other side. So, gear up, embrace the challenge, and let the games begin!
