Who are the true Architects of Freedom: the South African people.

Autumn is here; term 2 is underway; and along with these sneaky little timestamps, the arrival of a vitally important month in South African history known as Freedom Month. April holds significance in the heart of every South African, paying homage to the struggles and triumphs that have shaped the nation's identity.

Our history boasts many celebrated politicians and freedom fighters. We have housed 4 Nobel Peace prize winners: Albert Luthuli, Desmond Tutu, Nelson Mandela, and FW de Klerk. We also boast some of the most daring freedom fighters in international history: Walter Sisulu, Nelson Mandela; and, perhaps the original Architect of Freedom, the great Oliver Tambo: A Man of deep integrity and resounding defiance against inequality.

We love that our National Airport was named after Mr. OR Tambo. This is the place where people get to set foot on Rainbow Nation soil. The place that gives us as South African’s freedom to move with ease to follow our dreams. This freedom could mean a holiday flying out of OR Tambo airport, or the freedom to work and invest globally.

Since that historic day on 27 April 1994, our people have been gifted the freedom to choose, to grow and to change. Yet in so many ways, many still glue themselves to the past shackles of their ancestors. We can only be a part of a nation of breakthrough if we can sustain what these great ‘architects’ fought and died for. Then only, can we leave a legacy for a healthy future.
